Revitalization of ‘t Panhuis Business Park in Kesteren
‘t Panhuis Business Park in Kesteren spans a total gross area of 33 hectares (23.1 hectares net) and dates back to the 1960s. Key conclusions regarding the quality of ‘t Panhuis highlighted poor maintenance of street furniture, parking pressure, the absence of an urban design plan, and the low-grade appearance of the properties
Project Objective
Based on reports, the Province of Gelderland provided a subsidy to the municipality of Neder-Betuwe to realize the revitalization of the park. Businesses were asked to contribute to this effort. A list of measures and a timeline was created, including sustainability efforts
Results / Solutions
1. There are sufficient opportunities for local energy generation at and around ‘t Panhuis to make the businesses self-sufficient. There is ample unused (suitable) rooftop space available for energy generation, and plans existed to install three wind turbines along the A15. There is also space for large-scale energy storage.
2. Space is available for installing PV and PVT panels on roofs. Some businesses are willing to invest and upgrade their facilities, creating even more rooftop space suitable for solar installations. Notably, two companies are fully committed to this.
3. From the start of the project, various sub-projects focusing on sustainability and energy savings were initiated and further developed as individual sub-projects.
4. Early in the project, it became clear that the infrastructure required replacement, expansion, and reinforcement. The network operator upgraded and reinforced the infrastructure, ensuring no local congestion would occur
Project Status
The revitalization project began in 2012 and was completed in 2018. Following its completion, several companies continued to independently work on sustainability efforts for the park and their buildings. In 2021, Henk de Hartog concluded his work and involvement with ‘t Panhuis
