Project: Hart van Tiel; Inner City; Small businesses in delineated area

In 2022, we were approached by the city center manager

The question was whether it would be possible to provide 260 mostly small businesses with affordable sustainable energy. Additionally, there are 400 households located above commercial properties (such as shops and restaurants).

To address the question from the business association (OV) Hart van Tiel, a research study was conducted by a student from TU/e to understand the needs of the members

Research findings:

Entrepreneurs expressed that they want to:
  • Be unburdened.
  • Have access to affordable, available, and reliable sustainable energy solutions
Challenge

Due to evolving legislation and regulations, there is a growing focus on local smart energy systems where locally generated energy is also consumed locally. This minimizes or eliminates the need for energy transport via the Liander grid. 

This shift is driven by the upcoming New Energy Law.

Solution:
